Livable Later

Practical home changes for staying safely at home

Terms of use

These terms govern your use of the Livable Later website. By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the site. The disclaimer, the privacy policy, and the editorial policy are part of the bargain. Where this page and the disclaimer both speak, the disclaimer controls on professional advice, and this page controls on permission to use the text.

What the site is

Livable Later publishes general information about home modifications and related public programs. We do not offer medical, legal, architectural, engineering, tax, or benefits services. We do not enter a professional relationship with you because you read a page or sent an email. Email to the contact address is correspondence with an editorial project, not a hotline.

You are responsible for how you use the information. Confirm code questions with the local building department, clinical questions with a licensed clinician, benefit questions with the agency, and tax questions with a tax professional. Hire licensed trades for work that requires a license in your state.

Using the text

You may read the guides, print a checklist for your own household, and quote a short passage with a link back to the page. You may not copy entire guides onto another site, sell the collection, or present the text as your own advice product. The diagrams are part of the guides and follow the same rule. Sources we link to remain the property of their publishers. Our citation of a public document is not a license to you to republish that document beyond what its own terms allow. United States government works may have their own reuse rules.

Trademarks of other organizations, including program names and credential names, belong to those organizations. Mentioning CAPS, STEADI, or a federal program describes the thing. It does not claim an affiliation.

Acceptable use

Do not attack the site, probe it for vulnerabilities, or send malware to the contact address. Do not use the site to collect personal information about other people. Do not post our pages into an automated system and present the output as a personal assessment of a named individual. The guides are not validated for that use.

Liability

The site is provided as-is. We disclaim warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular house, and uninterrupted availability to the extent the law allows. We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, lost savings, or injury arising from reliance on the site, to the extent the law allows. Some places do not allow those limits. In those places the limits apply only as far as they legally can. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded, including for fraud or for injury caused by our own gross negligence where a statute forbids that exclusion.

We do not control agency websites we link to. A changed rule on an agency site does not wait for our edit. The verify-with-the-agency language in the guides is a term of use, not a slogan.

Changes and the law that applies

We may update these terms by posting a new version and changing the updated date. Continued use after that date means you accept the new version. We may also correct or remove a guide when a source changes.

Livable Later has not selected a governing-law state. Mandatory consumer protections where you live still apply. Disputes should start with an email to contact@livablelater.com so we can fix a mistake before anyone spends money on a fight about a checklist. If a dispute proceeds, the courts and the consumer rules of the place that actually has authority will decide. We would rather correct the page.

If a court strikes one sentence of these terms, the rest stays. Headings are for convenience. The contact page is the notice address for the editorial project.
